“I’m pregnant!” Many women dream of saying those words. Yet becoming pregnant is often more difficult than expected. Around one in six or seven UK couples may be affected by problems that impact on their ability to conceive.
Fortunately, many should still be able to conceive naturally, once the factors affecting their fertility are identified
The Zhai Clinic in Harley Street established since 1993. We help both men and women understand exactly what those vital ‘fertility factors’ are and will do all we can to help you become pregnant, by using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture in our Harley Street Clinic.
Our approach to helping you become pregnant is very much a holistic one, looking at all aspects of you and your partner’s health and wellbeing. Unlike artificial, invasive fertility treatments, our treatment programmes combine Chinese herbs and acupuncture with the latest Western medical knowledge to help you conceive more naturally.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a unique, distinct and independent medical system that has been practiced in China for more than 5,000 years and has been developed continuously throughout the centuries. It’s still the medicine of choice in the country today, although Western medicine is practiced alongside it. Guided by a wealth of clinical experience and understanding, therapeutic treatment with TCM brings impressive results to many diseases, with far fewer side effects.
How TCM can help with assisted fertility treatment
Even the most sophisticated assisted conception techniques can benefit from a helping hand. So whatever the nature of your fertility problem, our TCM treatments can help maximise your chances of success
Less treatment cycles, less invasive procedures, more healthy babies
By improving the quality of eggs and sperm, improving your reproductive system’s blood flow and balancing hormone levels, TCM gives you the best chance of achieving and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. As a result, the amount of assisted fertility cycles you have can be reduced or you can opt for less invasive assisted fertility procedures than might otherwise be possible.
Since it normally takes time for a patient to benefit from Traditional Chinese Medicine, we recommend starting this treatment before you embark on assisted fertility treatment.
Research proves the positive effects of TCM
The study we carried out, in collaboration with the University of Kent, clearly demonstrated that the Chinese herbs used in our TCM treatments significantly reduced the proportion of chromosomal abnormalities in the sperm of infertile men. This is of particular relevance in severe cases of male infertility, where the recommended treatment is Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), which involves the microinjection of a single sperm into an egg. When more healthy sperm are produced, following TCM, patients can attempt less invasive and less expensive procedures such as IUI or IVF. Plus, because you aren’t potentially perpetuating any chromosomal abnormalities, which may be present in the sperm, you’re helping to make our next generation healthier.
We treat a full range of problems associated with infertility in both men and women including:
- hormonal and ovulatory problems
- polycystic ovaries
- recurrent miscarriage
- unexplained infertility
- male infertility – including low sperm count, low motility, high abnormal form or anti-sperm anti-bodies
- preparation for assisted fertility treatment
We took a study on 224 female patients aged between 29 and 48, who continued treatment for at least twelve months. 76% became pregnant – more than half of them naturally – and three quarters of those pregnancies resulted in a live birth.
Our male patient figures show that among the partners (aged between 29 and 68) of the 60 men who followed the minimum three-month treatment programme, 63% became pregnant – again more than half of them naturally – and 86% of pregnancies resulted in a live birth.
